Our
Family History
The
Narcisi family has been producing wine for many generations. It all began
in our hometown of Giulianova, Italy. In the early 1900's Raphael Narcisi
and his family traveled to the United States bringing their talents and
knowledge of winemaking along. They settled in the local Pittsburgh area.
At that time there were no wineries in Pennsylvania and laws did not offer
opportunities to pursue winemaking as a career. The
Narcisi family was determined to continue the tradition of winemaking
and constructed a large wine cellar in their residence. Raphael with the
assistance of his wife Mary Dennis produced the family's wine at their
home. Raphael passed his knowledge and skills on to his sons with the
vision that they might continue the family tradition of winemaking throughout
subsequent generations. After Raphael's death the winemaking equipment
was moved to his son's farm where Thomas with his wife Mary and the help
of their three daughters built an even larger wine cellar. Raphael's grandson
Dennis Ralph and great grandsons Randall and Anthony Narcisi assisted
them. In 1989 Thomas passed the trade and his equipment on to the next
generation. From there, Dennis Ralph, with the assistance of his wife
Sara and sons Randall and Anthony continued this family tradition for
many years at their resident wine cellar. As
the opportunities for a winery business in western Pennsylvania became
a more attractive option, the La Casa Narcisi Winery facility was finally
built, and opened for business on November 1st, 2001. "It was a seed
planted, tended, and destined to sprout", said Dennis Narcisi. With
the opening of La Casa Narcisi Winery we bring you four generations and
over 75 combined years of winemaking experience with a genuine desire
and commitment to provide our customers with the best quality product,
made with the freshest grapes and the highest standards. We
are very pleased to have the opportunity to share our excitement and experience
with you and hope you enjoy the La Casa Narcisi wine.

About
the Winery
The La Casa
Narcisi Winery opened for business on November 1st, 2001. We are rooted
on a 10-acre parcel of land in the Deer Creek Valley. Edged by a clear,
fresh water trout stream, our site is nestled among the towering trees
and rolling hills of beautiful western Pennsylvania. As you picnic with
a glass of wine on our deck, you will find the homes of many kinds of
wildlife including our favorite, the wild turkeys.
The winery
building is a 2-story, 11,000 square foot winemaking facility. Designed
by owners Dennis and Randy Narcisi, the building and finish reflect a
modern, yet tradition Italian feel. Décor inside selected by Sara
Narcisi offers the creative and finishing touch.
Very visible
from the road, the building sits in the valley with a red tile roof and
sculpted Italian arches. Journey down the descending drive, between the
rows of grapevines, and by our small vineyard, to approach the stone patio,
that leads you ahead. Pull open one of the heavy 2 inch thick, solid wooden
arched doors and you have found your way into the tasting room where you
will be greeted by one of our outstanding staff members.
Tasting Room The tasting
room houses a specially designed, 30 foot copper-top bar made of crotch
wood cherry, very complimenting for an afternoon of wine sampling with
good company. Wine by the bottle, or by the glass can be sampled and purchased.
Our wine store displays various wine related accessories, gift items,
gift baskets, and gift certificates. Custom-made wine bottle gift baskets
are available with any wine combination. They make a great gift for any
occasion. We also offer a wide selection of small favor bottles with personnel
labels. These are very popular and make a fabulous addition to any wedding,
reunion and other unique event.
Leading towards
the mezzanine, is a deep red oak staircase. It invites you to the
upstairs where you may sit down and relax in our comfortable sitting area.
Two viewing windows provide a peak of the action into the
operation. Out the back door is our deck furnished with picnic tables
and overlooking the woods leading to the stream. Enjoy a bottle of wine
or have a cigar in the great outdoors.
The wine
cellar is an above the ground, climate controlled wine cellar containing
the latest in modern winemaking equipment originating from Italy. This
is where we crush, press, ferment, age, and bottle all of our wines. Current
tank capacity is about 20,000 gallons of wine. This is equal to about
100,000 bottles or 8,000 cases of wine per year.
The
VineyardWe planted
our first vine in 2001. Currently, our vinyard consists of Chambourcin,
Frontenac and Vidal vines. Plans are to grow a few more acres over the
next couple of years. Each year we will gradually add to our outdoor amenities.
The remaining
grapes that we use are grown at three select vineyards in the Erie, Pennsylvania
region. During the fall harvest, immediately following the grape picking,
we transport the grapes to the La Casa Narcisi Winery. From there the
winemaking process begins.
We first crush
the grapes. After a few days of fermenting, they are pressed. From that
point they go through various stages of aging and racking until developing
into the finished product. Bottling and Labeling are next and the wine
is ready for your enjoyment!
WinemakingWe currently
produce about 20,000 gallons or 100,000 bottles (8,000 cases) of wine
each year. Our lineup includes 26 varieties. Growing at a comfortable
pace, each year we gradually increase our production and add new varieties.
We offer a wide selection of quality wines produced using natural processes
and freshly picked grapes. Dennis, the vintner, develops our wines with
exceptionally low sulphite levels, which make for a more enjoyable and
healthier product.
Depending on
the variety, some wines take as little as 6 months to mature and are ready
to drink, while others can benefit from years of aging before they are
ready to be sold.
All of our
wines are made here at the winery and are available for sale at our winery
only. Wine production at a small winery is somewhat limited by the availability
of adequate grapes and the amount of available aging space. At different
times of the year, we continue to release new varieties and changing vintages.
So there is always something new and exciting.
With a history
of over four generations of winemaking, we have been able to finely tune
and perfect our techniques. The final product is a superior quality wine
that we think you will enjoy. Please stop in for a tasting!
